**Democracy isn’t a spectator sport—it’s an active practice.** Your neighbors, your community, and your country are counting on you to help safeguard the integrity of our elections. The Lucas County Board of Elections is actively seeking dedicated residents in a paid, temporary role to serve as a Precinct Election Official for the Nov. 2026 election.

This is your chance to protect the vote, support your neighbors in exercising their fundamental rights and learn the inner workings of the voting process.

### **Yes, Help is Needed, But what’s in it for volunteers?**

Serving as a poll worker is more than just a volunteer position; it is a vital civic contribution that offers unique personal and professional benefits:

_**A Paid Civic Role & Contribution:** While this is a service to your community, it is also a professional engagement. You will be compensated for your service on Election Day and for attending mandatory training._

**Protect the Heart of Our System:** When you work at the polls, you are the face of fairness. You ensure every eligible voter is welcomed, verified, and able to cast their ballot securely and privately.

_**Strengthen Your Community:** Connect with fellow neighbors and civic-minded leaders in a positive, collaborative environment. You will be the trusted resource helping first-time voters and seniors navigate the process with ease._

**Gain Behind-the-Scenes Insight:** See the gears of democracy turn firsthand. You’ll learn exactly how local elections are organized, managed, and secured from the inside out.

_**Professional Growth:** Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills for your resume. Some professions (such as legal, accounting, and social work) may even be eligible for continuing education credits._

### **What the Role Entails**

Poll workers are responsible for maintaining a neutral, secure, and friendly environment for all voters. Key responsibilities include:

_**Station Setup & Breakdown:** Arriving by 5:30 AM to prepare the polling location and ensuring voting machines are operational.

_**Voter Check-In:** Greeting neighbors, verifying identification, and processing registrations with accuracy and care._

**Voter Assistance:** Answering procedural questions and ensuring the polling site remains accessible for everyone.

_**Election Day Commitment:** This is a full-day commitment, starting before polls open and continuing until all materials are secured after polls close at 7:30 PM._

### **Who is Eligible to Serve? Almost all registered voters.**

To be a Precinct Election Official in Lucas County, you must meet the following requirements:

_**Residency:** You must be a United States citizen and a resident of Lucas County.

_**Voter Status:** You must be a registered voter in Lucas County._

**Legal Standing:** You must not have been convicted of a felony or any violation of election laws.

_**Youth @ the Booth:** A good student project for 17-year-old high school seniors. They are highly encouraged to apply\\! The voter registration requirement is waived for students, though they do need parental and school permission._
