# Meet Ed Schimmel, Republican for Ohio House District 44

Podcast

Northwood Mayor Ed Schimmel on data centers, school funding, school choice, and ending unfunded mandates — and his run for the open 44th District seat.

Ed Schimmel sat down with the VoteR podcast to share his story: born in Toledo and raised in Northwood, he built a law practice on Woodville Road, spent eight years on city council — where he led the fight that removed the city's red light cameras — and is now in his 11th year as Northwood's mayor. With Rep. Josh Williams running for Congress, Schimmel won the Republican primary for the open 44th District seat with 64% of the vote. In this interview he lays out his priorities: making data centers recycle their water and cover their own power costs, a fair floor-and-cap for state school funding, protecting school choice, and ending unfunded mandates on small communities.
