He first joined the State Senate in December 2017 after serving in the Ohio House of Representatives for District 81 from 2015 to 2017. Throughout his legislative career, McColley has been involved in economic and workforce development efforts and has held leadership roles within the Senate GOP. In January 2026, he was selected by Vivek Ramaswamy to be his running mate for lieutenant governor in the 2026 Ohio gubernatorial election. A resident of Napoleon, Ohio, McColley is an attorney by profession. He earned his bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law. Prior to his career in the state legislature, he led economic development initiatives for Henry and Williams counties. He is married to his wife, Denise, and has been recognized for his work in securing capital budget funding for his district, which covers 11 counties in northwest Ohio. Born in Bluffton, Ohio, in 1956, he is the son of former long-term Congressman Del Latta. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Bowling Green State University in 1978 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1981. Before serving in Congress, Latta held several positions in local and state government. He served as a Wood County Commissioner from 1991 to 1996, followed by a term in the Ohio State Senate from 1997 to 2000. He later served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2001 until his election to the U.S. House in a 2007 special election to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Paul Gillmor. Throughout his tenure in the U.S. House, he has been active in committee work and has sponsored numerous pieces of legislation. In his legislative career, Latta has focused on constituent services, veteran affairs, and federal agency oversight. He is currently seeking re-election for the 2026 term. He is married to Marcia Sloan, with whom he has two children, and is a member of the Catholic Church. He was appointed by Governor Mike DeWine to fill the vacancy created by J.D. Vance. Prior to his appointment, Husted had an extensive career in Ohio state government, serving as Lieutenant Governor (2019–2025), Ohio Secretary of State (2011–2019), and a member of both the Ohio State Senate and the House of Representatives, where he served as Speaker of the House from 2005 to 2009. Raised in Williams County, Ohio, Husted was adopted into a family that emphasized faith and hard work. He attended the University of Dayton, where he earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree and was an All-American defensive back on the 1989 Division III National Championship football team. Before entering elective office, he served as the Vice President for Economic Development at the Dayton-Area Chamber of Commerce. In the U.S. Senate, he serves on several committees, including Appropriations, Environment and Public Works, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
